Fox Valley Equine practice serves clients within a 35-mile radius of the practice office in LaFox, IL. We serve back-yard barns to large boarding facilities, Miniature Horses to Clydesdales, pleasure horses to equine athletes, newborn foals to senior horses.
Established in 1990, by Dr. David Heinze, Fox Valley Equine Practice is dedicated to providing the best field medicine available for clients and their horses. Our mobile practice provides lameness evaluations, state-of-the-art diagnostics, reproductive services, preventative care, emergency services, surgery, dentistry, chiropractic, pre-purchase exams and cutting-edge medicine.

A BARN IN ELGIN HAD A HORSE TEST POSITIVE FOR EHV-1, THE NON-NEUROLOGICAL STRAIN. THIS STRAIN RARELY CAUSES NEUROLOGIC DISEASE AND MORE COMMONLY CAUSES UPPER RESPIRATORY SIGNS SUCH AS FEVER, COUGH, NASAL DISCHARGE AND LETHARGY. ONE ELDERLY HORSE PRESENTED WITH NEUROLOGIC SYMPTOMS AND HAD TO BE EUTHANIZED. THREE HORSES HAVE PRESENTED WITH A FEVER AND NO OTHER SIGNS. TWO OF THE THREE HORSES TESTED NEGATIVE FOR EHV-I. THE THIRD TEST IS PENDING.
THE RHINO VACCINE DOES OFFER A LEVEL OF PROTECTION FOR THE NON-NEUROLOGICAL STRAIN. THE RHINO VACCINE DOES NOT PROVIDE PROTECTION FOR THE NEUROLOGICAL STRAIN.
THE BARN IS UNDER SELF-QUARANTINE AND IS INSTITUTING PROPER BIOSECURITY PROTOCOLS. THE BARN WILL REMAIN UNDER QUARANTINE FOR A MINIMUM OF TWO WEEKS AFTER THE LAST FEVER. ALL FVEP VETS AND STAFF ARE FOLLOWING PROPER BIOSECURITY PROTOCOLS.
